Compression Tool for Simulation Results
Simply compress efficiently: FEMZIP compresses data from crash simulations in the car manufacturing industry as precisely as the user specifies. This reduces the total amount of data, yet important information is not lost and is still available after the decompression.

Data Compression
FEMZIP is a specialized tool for the compression of LS-DYNA™ (FEMZIP-L), PAM-CRASH™ (FEMZIP-P) and MSC Nastran™ (FEMZIP-N) results. It reads and reconstructs the native data formats.
The decompression tool FEMUNZIP is available at this website free of charge.

Advantages
Compression factor up to ten
With the high compression rates of FEMZIP, storage and backup resources can be reduced by a factor of about 10. Additionally these high compression rates allow a fast exchange of compressed files via data networks and even more simulation result files can be stored parallelly for the local work.
Read-in time
To support the user’s workflow, compressed files can be directly read in by a growing number of pre- and post-processing tools. As a huge benefit, the read-in times for a compressed PAM-CRASH™ file, for example in GNS Animator3, is shorter than opening an uncompressed crash result file.
Functionality
Functionality and Settings
Crash simulation results are usually stored in 32 bit floating point representation. Due to numerical approximation errors and the inaccuracy in the model description itself, the 32 bit floating point representation is far too accurate compared to the actual precision of the simulation results.
Therefore FEMZIP requires a parameter file (for compression only), which contains the required accuracy for each result field of the simulation output. FEMZIP assures the same results, if an output file is compressed and decompressed several times using the same parameter file. The compression and decompression modules of FEMZIP are executable files, which allow direct integration into any environment. Windows and LINUX platforms as well as HP, SUN, IBM and SGI specific processors and operating systems are supported.
