Research & Development
Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing SCAI

All research done at the Department of Bioinformatics is driven by aspects of industrial applicability, concrete problem solving and midterm return on investment. Once a solution to a scientific problem has been worked out, we go as far as software prototypes; for further development and marketing of software products we seek alliances with industrial solution providers – typically small or medium size software houses.
Research activities at the Department of Bioinformatics are focusing on three different aspects of modern life science informatics:
Most of our exploratory research activities are based on funding from either national or EU sources. Targeted applied research and development is generally done by addressing the specific needs of our industrial partners in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.
Exploratory research is also done in the context of our educational activities at the Bonn Aachen International Centre for Information Technology (B-IT).
