How should energy and supply networks be designed to ensure safe transformation and reliability during disruptions? Dr. Mehrnaz Anvari explores such questions at Fraunhofer SCAI. Since 2025, she has been a member of the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA). Her admission to this esteemed network highlights her scientific achievements and provides her with a platform to foster German-Arab research collaborations.

The AGYA is a bilateral Young Academy founded in 2013. It connects early-career scientists from Germany and 22 Arab countries. Its goal is to promote interdisciplinary exchange, joint research projects, and Arab-German scientific collaboration. Anvari works in the 'Energy, Water and Environment' working group.

At Fraunhofer SCAI, Anvari heads the “Network Evaluation Technologies” business area. The work focuses on planning, simulation, and optimization of physical energy network infrastructures across sectors such as gas, electricity, heat, and water. Therefore, a groundbreaking software called MYNTS, the “Multiphysical Network Simulator,” is being developed in the business area to facilitate the simulation of the energy networks.

MYNTS supports network operators and energy providers in the conversion and expansion of their infrastructure, for example, during the energy transition, the switch from natural gas to hydrogen, and the increased use of renewable energy sources. The software helps to better assess the impacts of changes or disruptions and to enhance the resilience of energy infrastructure.

At AGYA, Anvari aims to contribute her expertise in energy networks, resilience, cascading failures, complex systems, stochastic processes, and data-driven models. The academy provides her with a platform to deepen scientific exchange between Germany and the Arab world and to establish new partnerships to advance energy supply solutions.
