Dr. Mehrnaz Anvari from Fraunhofer SCAI is a member of the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Since 2025, she has contributed her expertise in resilient energy grids, data-driven modeling, and simulation software to the international network.

Interoperability remains one of the biggest obstacles in engineering simulation. Data is often locked in silos, workflows break down between software tools, and manual transfer steps still cost time, money, and reliability. A new review by the NAFEMS ASSESS Initiative highlights two technologies closely associated with Fraunhofer SCAI: the VMAP standard for simulation data exchange and the MpCCI software environment for multiphysics co-simulation.

Fraunhofer SCAI will showcase the latest version of PackAssistant at FACHPACK. Packaging planners worldwide use the software in the automotive, mechanical engineering, and supplier industries. With the new pairing function, users can now pack two parts together as a single unit. They can specify how these parts are arranged, giving them more control over the positioning of the components. A new automation interface also allows the software to be better integrated into specific company workflows.

Alzheimer’s disease is considered one of the most complex diseases of our time. At Fraunhofer SCAI, Dr. Alpha Tom Kodamullil is using artificial intelligence and natural language processing to search for new approaches to personalized therapy. With the release of version 6.0, Fraunhofer SCAI is taking AutoPanelSizer to the next level. The optimization software for cutting plans is now more precise and flexible, while saving even more material.

On June 23 and 24, 2025, the second edition of “AI in the Life Sciences – An Industry Symposium” will take place at Schloss Birlinghoven in Sankt Augustin, Germany. The symposium, organized by Fraunhofer SCAI and the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it), brings together leading experts in artificial intelligence (AI) and life sciences.

How can Alzheimer’s disease be detected earlier? What prevention strategies are currently available, and where is research heading? These questions will take center stage at the final symposium of the ADIS project, which will take place on June 25 and 26 at Fraunhofer SCAI in Schloss Birlinghoven.

The Alzheimer Research Initiative, e.V., has awarded Dr. Alpha Tom Kodamullil from the Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing SCAI an “Early Career Grant.“ This prestigious funding, valued at €60,000, will allow her to investigate innovative, personalized Alzheimer's therapies from January 1, 2025, until the end of 2026.

Dr. Sara Hahner has been awarded the Ada Lovelace Prize for her outstanding dissertation on the efficient analysis and representation of three-dimensional surface meshes at the Institute for Numerical Simulation at the University of Bonn. In her work, which Prof. Dr. Jochen Garcke supervised, she developed efficient methods based on machine learning that make it possible to compare and optimize complex 3D structures. These methods are used in computer animations and technical simulations, for example to improve crash tests in the automotive industry.
